#1) Don’t overthink your child’s initial evaluation results! Why? It’s just a starting point, and often times kids score LOWER on initial assessments due to non-compliance and non-preferred tasks! Soooo, take it with a grain of salt, don’t overthink it and keep your chin up!! The most important part is that your child is beginning to get therapy and support!

#4) Create communication opportunities in your home! How?! + Don’t anticipate your child’s needs all of the time – wait for them to initiate communication and ask/sign/use a gesture/sound or word + Limit a child’s ability to access all of their favorite toys, snacks, juices – by putting it just out of reach or in a see-through bin with a lid + Use a first/then approach or MODELED approach for teaching HOW to make a request // All Inclusive //Speedy Speech TOUCH Hand Cues: https://youtu.be/yy1LrKg3fFs https://speedyslp.com/resources/hand-cues/
#5) Practice, Practice, Practice Skills the skills you are targeting! Don’t give up when your child pulls their hand away or doesn’t get it the first time! Acquiring a new skills is like running a marathon! It takes lots of good AND bad days, tons of repetition and a lot of support! YOU CAN DO IT! Don’t give up! Begin at a level that is lower than your child’s current ability level to increase your child’s motivational level OR begin with a preferred task using first/then method. —
